Spotify intensiveert AI-inzet met Universal Music-deal, stelt ambitieuze groeidoelen uit
Spotify intensiveert zijn AI-inspanningen met een overeenkomst met Universal Music en presenteert ambitieuze groeidoelen.
Spotify has reached a licensing agreement with Universal Music Group that will allow the streaming service to use songs from the music label's catalog to train artificial intelligence models, the companies announced on Tuesday.
The deal marks a significant moment in the music industry's evolving relationship with AI, as major record labels have largely resisted allowing their music to be used for AI training without compensation. Universal Music Group, which represents artists including Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande, is the world's largest music company by revenue.
Under the agreement, Spotify will be able to use Universal's music to develop AI features, which could include personalized playlists, AI-generated content, and other music recommendation tools. In return, Universal will receive compensation, though the companies did not disclose specific financial terms.
Spotify also laid out ambitious growth targets during its earnings call on Tuesday, projecting continued expansion in its user base and advertising revenue. The streaming giant said it expects to reach profitability while maintaining strong growth in the coming years.
The deal comes as Spotify faces increasing competition from other streaming platforms and seeks to differentiate itself through AI-powered features. It also reflects broader industry trends, as tech companies increasingly seek to incorporate AI into their products and services.
